When I think back on this engagement session, the first word that comes to mind is joyful. These two traveled up from Atlanta for the weekend, and we met at Bells Bend, one of my favorite spots in Nashville for film engagement sessions. It’s quiet, open, and dog-friendly — which was perfect, because they brought their gorgeous golden retriever. (I have a soft spot for goldens, so I was basically in heaven.)

Bells Bend is a Nashville film photographers dream. It’s one of the only places where you get wide-open fields with rolling hills in the background, which really come alive during golden hour. As the sun started to dip, the light turned this warm, honey-gold color that lit up the grass and the surroundings — the perfect backdrop for such a fun evening.
Shooting on Film: 35mm and 120
As a Nashville film photographer, I shot this session on 35mm and 120 film across three cameras. Most of it was on Portra 400 — my go-to for golden hour. Shooting film slows me down, forcing me to be intentional with every frame, which is one of the reasons I love it so much.

Between the laughs and their pup happily running around, it was the kind of evening that reminds me why I love documenting love stories. And knowing they’re getting married in Montana later this year made it even more special to be part of this chapter of their story.
