When I think back on this engagement session, the first word that comes to mind is joyful. These two traveled up from Atlanta for the weekend, and we met at Bells Bend, one of my favorite spots in Nashville for film engagement sessions. It’s quiet, open, and dog-friendly — which was perfect, because they brought their gorgeous golden retriever. (I have a soft spot for goldens, so I was basically in heaven.)

Bells Bend is a Nashville film photographers dream. It’s one of the only places where you get wide-open fields with rolling hills in the background, which really come alive during golden hour. As the sun started to dip, the light turned this warm, honey-gold color that lit up the grass and the surroundings — the perfect backdrop for such a fun evening.
As a Nashville film photographer, I shot this session on 35mm and 120 film across three cameras. Most of it was on Portra 400 — my go-to for golden hour. Shooting film slows me down, forcing me to be intentional with every frame, which is one of the reasons I love it so much.
More than anything, I loved how calm and easy this session felt. Between the laughs and their pup happily running around, it was the kind of evening that reminds me why I love documenting love stories. And knowing they’re getting married in Montana later this year made it even more special to be part of this chapter of their story.
Bells Bend is always quiet, serene, and home to some of the best sunsets. It’s a place I love to visit, even when I’m not documenting love stories. Perfect for a date night, a short hike, a picnic, or just sitting around and listening to music.
When it comes to what to wear for your session at Bells Bend, think comfortable, flowy, and natural. Neutral tones, earthy colors, and soft fabrics always look beautiful against the greens and golden light during sunset. If you’re planning to hike a bit, bring shoes you can easily walk in and swap into dressier options once we reach the perfect spot. Layers are also great for cooler evenings and add some variety to your photos. And don’t forget the bug spray — it’s nature, after all!
As a Nashville film photographer, I love working across the area to help couples capture every milestone of their beautiful lives. Want to see if we’re a match? Head over to my contact page and send me an inquiry so we can get the conversation started!
