ToggleSome places just slow you down without you really noticing it. Leipers Fork is one of those places for me.
It kind of reminds me of what a hometown used to feel like when you were a kid. You leave the busier roads in Franklin and things start to open up. You see fields, old fences, long stretches of road where nothing feels rushed. It’s not somewhere you’re trying to “get through,” it feels more like somewhere you settle into for a bit.
That’s usually how engagement sessions feel out here too. We just move around at whatever pace feels right. Stop when something looks good. Keep going when it feels natural. Nothing overly structured or constantly posed.
It just feels easy. Like you’re spending time together in a place that already knows how to slow people down a little.

One of the best parts about doing an engagement session in Leipers Fork is that you don’t really have to try so hard out here.
We usually just start walking and see what feels good. If the light looks pretty, we stop. If something makes you laugh or pulls your attention for a second, we lean into that instead of rushing past it.
There’s no pressure to constantly pose or perform. It’s more about giving yourselves a little space to just be together and letting me follow along as it happens. Plus, Leipers Fork is so adorable, so wanting to stop and stare will all come very naturally here.
Leipers Fork doesn’t really need to try to be beautiful. It just is. And I think that’s what makes it such a good place for engagement sessions.
When you get out there, it’s pretty simple in the best way. You’ve got open land that just keeps going, old fences that have clearly been there a long time, winding roads that don’t feel busy or rushed, and fields that move with the wind. It just feels lived in and real. Like a quaint little county town.
And I think because of that, people settle in here a little faster. You’re not really performing or thinking about what the scenery is doing behind you. You’re just with each other. Walking, talking, being present, and letting things feel easy instead of planned out step by step.
That’s usually when everything shifts. The location fades into the background and what you’re actually left with is the connection between the two of you. And that’s always the part that matters most in the end.

It’s usually the simple things that stay with people from a session like this.
Walking side by side without really thinking about where you’re going, just talking as the sun starts to dip a little lower. The way the light changes and everything starts to feel softer without you even noticing it at first.
You’ll feel the wind move through the town and it kind of resets everything for a second. Or someone says something that makes the other person laugh, not because it was planned or posed, but because that’s just how they are together.
There are also those quieter moments where you’re just close to each other without thinking about the camera at all. No direction or pressure, just being together for a minute.
And then later, those are the things people bring up again. Not the poses or anything forced, but the in-between moments that felt the most like them.

One of my favorite parts about doing engagement sessions in Leipers Fork is just how much variety there is in such a small area. It never feels like you’re stuck in one “type” of backdrop the whole time, and that makes the session feel really natural and easy.
You can start in one spot and end up with completely different feels without ever driving far. That’s something I always appreciate when I’m working with couples here.
You’ve got a little bit of everything:
And what I love most is that none of it feels like it’s trying too hard. It just exists as it is. So the session doesn’t feel like you’re recreating Pinterest photos in different spots, it feels like you’re just spending time together, moving through a place that already has its own personality.
That’s what makes Leipers Fork so easy to document in. It gives you options without ever feeling overwhelming, and it keeps everything feeling super easy and real from start to finish.

When I’m photographing engagement sessions like this, I’m not trying to control every second or make things feel overly directed. I’m really just paying attention to you two and how you naturally are together.
Every couple shows up a little differently, and that’s honestly what I love about it. Some people are talking the whole time, just joking around and catching up with each other like the camera isn’t even there. Other couples are a little quieter, more in the moment, just holding hands and taking everything in. Neither one is better than the other, it all tells the story in its own way.
So instead of over posing everything or trying to make you fit into a certain “look,” I’m usually just giving you something simple to do and then stepping back a bit. Walking, slowing down, pausing when something feels good. It’s less about performance and more about letting you just be together without overthinking it.
That’s really the goal the whole time…..to create enough space for real moments to happen without forcing them.
If you want to see what that looks like in real sessions, you can take a look through my portfolio and get a feel for how I approach things.
Couples who choose Leiper’s Fork for their engagement session usually want something that feels easy and personal. They want photos that reflect who they actually are rather than something overly curated or performative.
This place creates room for that kind of experience. Nothing pulls attention away from the moment itself.

By the end of the evening, it usually doesn’t feel like we’ve been doing a “photoshoot” at all. It feels more like you two just spent time together while I happened to be there documenting it.
That’s always the goal for me. Not to make it feel staged or overly directed, but to let the experience stay pretty true to how you actually are together. And in my experience, those are the photos people end up going back to the most.
If you’re planning a Leipers Fork engagement session and want something that feels natural, candid, and not overly posed, you can reach out here and we’ll start planning something that feels like you.
I photograph weddings across Tennessee and beyond, using a mix of digital, film, and super 8 video.
My approach is simple. I create space for you to be fully present, and I document what actually happens. You won’t receive photos that feel copy and paste, but something that reflects your day as it was. If there’s one thing to know about me, it’s that I care about your actual wedding, not a version of it made for the camera.
If you’re planning something that matters to you, I’d love to connect.
